3 Arrested In Jewelry Robbery

Compiled From Wire Services

Three people were in custody Monday after a gunman walked into a Fred Meyer store, shot out some display cases and fled with jewelry.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at a Fred Meyer store in the Burien area south of Seattle when a gunman walked to the store’s jewelry department and began shooting out the display cases with a 9mm handgun, King County Police said.

The gunman then grabbed jewelry, ran out of the store and jumped into a blue Honda Civic containing two other people.

The suspects fled and switched into a red Ford Probe before police were able to stop them. The suspects fled on foot, but were tracked down and arrested with the help of dogs, police spokesman Jerrell Wills said.

Three guns, a “large quantity” of jewelry and the blue Honda, which was believed to have been stolen, were recovered, Wills said.

The man suspected of being the gunman was described as a 22-year-old Kent resident. The other suspects were described only as 19 and 21 years old.

No injuries were reported.
