Padres Nip Expos In Extra Innings

Pinch-hitter Scott Livingstone singled home Wally Joyner with the go-ahead run in the 10th inning Tuesday night, lifting the visiting San Diego Padres over the Montreal Expos 3-2.

San Diego won for the sixth time in seven games. Monreal has lost five straight and 11 of its last 13.

Pirates 6, Astros 5 Pittsburgh

Charlie Hayes hit a two-run home run and Jason Kendall tripled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to rally Pittsburgh to a win over Houston.

Mets 4, Giants 0 New York

Bernard Gilkey homered twice and Mark Clark pitched seven shutout innings as New York posted its second straight shutout with a win over San Francisco.

Marlins 6, Reds 2 Miami

Kevin Brown allowed one run in five innings and drove in a run with his first major-league hit to help Florida beat Cincinnati in a game delayed twice by rain.

Phillies 9, Dodgers 3 Philadelphia

Pete Incaviglia hit a pair of three-run homers, leading Philadelphia over Los Angeles.

Dodgers All-Star catcher Mike Piazza, leading the N.L. with a .373 batting average, left the game in the second inning after hyperflexing his right knee.

He was hurt sliding into second base, and was listed as day-to-day.

Rockies 6, Cardinals 5 St. Louis

Colorado scored three runs in the ninth inning, and then executed a pickoff play to preserve a win over St. Louis.

Cubs-Braves, ppd., rain Chicago

The game between the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves was postponed due to rain and wet field conditions. The game will be made up Aug. 30 as part of a doubleheader.

Clearing the bases

Aside from Colorado, Pittsburgh is the Astros most difficult road city. Houston is 75-149 in Pittsburgh.
