Belle, Continued

Compiled From Wire Services

The latest incident involving Cleveland Indians slugger Albert Belle occurred during Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Rangers when Belle cursed a fan who refused to give him a home-run ball without compensation.

Ken Logan of Benbrook was sitting in the left-field stands and caught Belle’s major league-leading 21st home run in the fourth inning of the Rangers’ 11-3 win. Belle told Joe Macko, the visitor clubhouse manager, he wanted the ball.

Macko had Logan escorted to the Indians clubhouse, where Logan told Belle he would trade him the ball for one autographed by Belle.

Belle refused, allegedly saying he wouldn’t give Logan anything because fans in the left-field stands had taunted him.

“His exact words, his quote, was, ‘I won’t pay you …,”’ Logan said. Belle, Logan said, punctuated his reply with a curse.
