Indian Trail Widening Delayed Until Next Year

Bruce Krasnow

The new design of Indian Trail Road took longer than expected and construction has been put off until next summer.

City engineers say it makes more sense to start and finish the road in one construction season than stretch it over two. The road will be widened from Kathleen to Ridgecrest with curbs, sidewalks and bike lanes. The total width would go from 44 feet to 65 feet.

The delay was caused because the grade of the new road was difficult to navigate as homes along Indian Trail are at different elevations.

“Its been one of the more difficult projects I’ve had to deal with,” said Raymond.

The revised plan is to go forward with construction as soon as the snow clears in 1997.

Calkins apartment hearing

A hearing has been set for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on a plan by Cedar Builders for 700 multi-family housing units along Nevada Street north of Francis Avenue.

Of that, 586 units would be in apartment buildings and 114 in duplexes. There would be parking for 1,265 vehicles. The land is on the south side of Lincoln Road between Nevada and Crestline Streets. The plan is one of three major developments set for the area, which was annexed into the city in 1994. The 405-home Bluegrass subdivision was given approval in April.

Deer Park art classes

The Deer Park Art Commission launched its maiden run by offering youth art classes this summer.

Class for kids in grades kindergarten through 12th grade will run in two sessions - June 17-29, and July 8-20. Registration forms can be picked up today at the Deer Park Library. Deadline for the first session is July 7.

The city’s first arts commission was formed last winter by a group of local artisans. Call arts commission organizers Carolyn Russell at 276-8480 or Brenda Lippert at 276-5938 for more information.
