Man Faces Charge Of Child Molestation

A Spokane man is facing a first-degree child molestation charge after a 6-year-old girl told her school counselor he sexually abused her.

Darick L. Karnes, 28, was arrested over the weekend and released on personal recognizance Tuesday.

Karnes is accused of fondling the girl, then 5, in his South Thor home last November and forcing her to touch his genitals, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Spokane County District Court.

The girl complained about the abuse to the counselor last month after taking a personal safety course at her elementary school, police Detective Jan Pogachar wrote in the affidavit.

The counselor interviewed the girl extensively and then alerted police.

Karnes denied touching the girl but failed a lie-detector test, according to authorities.

“The defendant showed a probability of 100 percent deception on question No. 3, which was, ‘Did you have (the victim) touch you in the area of your penis,”’ Pogachar wrote.
