Tigers’ Dirty Dozen Ends After Four Hrs

Curtis Pride hit one of Detroit’s four solo homers, then tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning Wednesday night as the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 at Kansas City, Mo., to snap a 12-game losing skid.

Cecil Fielder, Melvin Nieves and Raul Casanova also homered for the Tigers (13-39), who won for the fifth time in 37 games. It was the fourth road win in 22 tries for the Tigers, whose 12-game skid had matched their longest since 1989.

Rangers 5, Indians 4

Arlington, Texas

Dean Palmer raced home with the go-ahead run on a passed ball to cap a three-run rally in the eighth, giving Texas a three-game sweep of Cleveland.

Cleveland hadn’t lost three straight since opening the season 0-3.

Angels 4, Yankees 0

Anaheim, Calif.

Chuck Finley (7-2) blanked New York over eighth innings, striking out 10 as California shut out the major league’s top hitting team for the second straight night.

A’s 7, Red Sox 6 (10)

Oakland, Calif.

Torey Lovullo’s bases-loaded grounder scored the winning run when first baseman Mo Vaughn’s throw to the plate was in the dirt for an error as Oakland rallied for two runs in the 10th and beat Boston.

Blue Jays 6, White Sox 5

Toronto

Jacob Brumfield hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs as Toronto rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat Chicago.

Twins 8, Brewers 7 (12)

Milwaukee

Jeff Reboulet’s RBI single with one out in the 12th gave Minnesota a win over Milwaukee.

Clearing the bases John Olerud of Toronto has nine homers this season, one more than he hit last season. … After 49 games last season, the White Sox were 18-31. After 50 games this year, they are 30-20.

Cleveland was swept in a three-game series for the first time since June 23-25, against Chicago. … Texas has been in first place for 41 straight days, the second-longest streak in team history.
