Two Students Fight, Alleging Harassment
The two fighting students, one white and one black, were detained for questioning and released, campus security officers said.
Each man claimed he was being harassed by the other, said campus Sgt. D.S. Strosahl.
The white student was identified as David Flair. The black student is Stacey Young. Both men are in their 20s.
Flair reportedly elbowed Young as they passed outside the Lair student center at the heart of the campus just after noon on Tuesday. Words were exchanged.
Young said Flair called him a racist name, triggering the fight. Young said he hit Flair, who suffered a minor cut over his left eye.
Tension between the two reportedly started three weeks ago. Young said Flair had been taunting him, and at one point threatened him by displaying a straight razor.
Young said he wants Flair investigated for racial harassment. Flair told officers that Young harassed him.
The college’s vice president of student services is investigating the incident for possible disciplinary action.
