Coeur D’Alene Mines Cuts Jobs

From Staff And Wire Reports

Coeur d’Alene Mines Corp. has cut 4 percent of its worldwide work force in a move to trim its costs.

The move eliminates 64 positions, most of them currently filled, from Coeur’s work force of about 1,000, said Tony Ebersole, director of investor relations for the silver and gold mining company.

Like most mining companies in the region, Coeur has been struggling with low silver prices and stagnant gold prices. In an effort to become more competitive in the market, Coeur decided to cut the positions.

Ebersole would not reveal how many of the cuts came at the company’s corporate office here or at its Silver Valley Resources Corp. unit in Idaho’s Silver Valley. That unit, co-owned with New York-based Asarco Inc., controls the Coeur and Galena silver mines.

Coeur’s operations extend to Chile, Australia and Alaska. No further cuts are planned at this time, Ebersole said.
