Quarterback Chuck Pinkerton threw two touchdown passes to lead the Willamette Bearcats to a 44-21 victory over the Puget Sound Loggers in Tacoma Saturday.

Pinkerton completed passes to seven different receivers and was 13 for 19 for 184 yards.

The Bearcats took the lead at 9:50 in the first quarter when Gabe Fuerte rushed 25 yards to the end zone. The Loggers answered with a Daryl Wright 29-yard touchdown dash to tie the game.

But Dawson Williams rushed 7 yards to return the lead to the Bearcats for good. The Bearcats led 28-6 at halftime.

Wright rushed 27 yards to score in the third for the Loggers, and added a two-point conversion to cut the margin to 28-14, but the Bearcats were not finished.

Josh Scott dashed 7 yards for a touchdown, Forrest Williams ran 22 yards for another, and Tim Blair kicked a 41-yard field goal to cap the winners’ scoring.

With 3:40 to go, Bryan Davis plunged 1 yard for a Loggers touchdown that wasn’t nearly enough.

In Ashland, Ore., Ryan Fournier threw for 373 yards and five touchdowns, four to Kenny Russaw, to lead Central Washington to a lopsided victory over Southern Oregon.

The Wildcats (4-4, 2-1 in the Columbia Football Association) spotted Southern Oregon a 14-7 lead in the first quarter, then scored the next 24 points to pull away.

The 59 points were the most given up by Southern Oregon since 1979, when the Raiders lost to Oregon Tech 62-8.

Southern Oregon quarterback Chad Guthrie passed for 220 yards and three touchdowns, but the Raiders (3-4, 0-3) were outgained 604 yards to 474.

Trailing 14-10, the Wildcats drove 80 yards in 11 plays, taking a 17-14 lead on Dan Murphy’s 11-yard run with 6:42 left in the second quarter. Fournier then directed scoring drives of 88 and 67 yards, ending in a 4-yard touchdown pass to Russaw and a 7-yarder to Josh Woodward, to give Central Washington a 31-14 lead with 10:12 left in the third quarter.
