From Staff And Wire Reports

An Elk, Wash., man was jailed late Friday after the pickup he was driving collided with another truck, critically injuring the driver.

Kenneth R. Hitchcock, 32, was booked into the Stevens County Jail for vehicular assault following the 11 p.m. accident along Springdale-Hunter Road.

Cheryl A. Henry, 31, of Loon Lake, was listed in critical condition late Saturday at Holy Family Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.

Hitchcock’s 1992 Dodge pickup crossed the center line and collided head on with Henry’s 1994 Ford pickup 18 miles west of Springdale, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Alcohol was involved, troopers said.

Henry was taken to the hospital with head injuries, troopers said.

Hitchcock, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered cuts and bruises but refused treatment.
