No Sign Of Missing UW Couple On Trek

Compiled From Wire Services

Rescue teams combed a remote Himalayan mountain Saturday, but failed to find any trace of a U.S. medical school dean and his wife missing since being trapped in a freak snow storm.

Two helicopters scanned the peak for Philip J. Fialkow, 62, the dean of the University of Washington medical school in Seattle, his wife Helen, 61, and three Nepalese guides. Eight rescuers searched Langmosin Bhanjyang peak near the Nepal-Tibet border, but failed to locate the missing people, said G. Gurung, one of the officials coordinating the search.

They disappeared Oct. 21 on their way to Shey Gompa, a Buddhist monastery.
