Classic Appeal Ballet Stars Of Moscow Return To The Area With Familiar Favorites

The Ballet Stars of Moscow are no strangers to Inland Northwest audiences, nor will the choreography included on the programs for performances Tuesday and Wednesday be unfamiliar.

The troupe last performed in Spokane in 1994 and also appeared here in 1993 and 1990. And the Russian dancers will stage many of the same dances they performed two years ago.

But then this is classic choreography that’s timeless and bears repeated watching.

Ballet Stars of Moscow will dance the famous “The Dying Swan;; by Mikhail Fokine, the pas de deux from “Le Corsaire” by Marius Petipa and the grand pas de deux from “The Nutcracker (Act II)” by Vasily Vainonen.

All of the dancers are members of Moscow’s leading dance companies, the Bolshoi Ballet, Moscow Classical Ballet and Stanislavsky Theatre Ballet, and were assembled by Shamil Yagudin, ballet master of Bolshoi Ballet, as a touring company. The troupe is near the beginning of a 30-city tour of the United States.

In the style of Russian classical ballet, there won’t be any surprises choreographically on the evening’s program. Other dances include excerpts from “Walpurgis Night” and “La Rose Malade,” Frederic Chopin’s “Romantic Duet” and the pas de deux from “The Flames of Paris” and the pas de dix from “Raymonda.” , DataTimes ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
