Idaho Golfer Third At 49er Collegiate Classic

THURSDAY, NOV. 7, 1996

Idaho golfer Brian King finished tied for third at the 49er Collegiate Classic in Long Beach, Calif.

King, a sophomore, shot a 3-over-par 73 to finish at 2-over 212. Idaho, in its final fall competition, finished eighth in the 19-team field at 879.

Brigham Young Unversity won the team title at 860. Fresno State’s Josh Watney, who shot 4-under 206, won the individual title by four strokes.

Men’s soccer

Brett Fink scored twice and goalkeeper Dustin Pilcher made a one-on-one save with 1 minute left Wednesday as the Community Colleges of Spokane men’s soccer team (14-3-1) beat visiting Everett 2-1 at Spokane Falls Community College.

Fink scored 1 minute into the match, on a crossing pass from Donovan Hodgson, then tallied the match-winner at 66 minutes. CCS maintained its lead in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

Gonzaga University goalkeeper Josh Fouts was named West Coast Conference player of the week and selected to Soccer America’s collegiate men’s team of the week after shutouts against the University of San Francisco and St. Mary’s College.

Volleyball

Katie Axtman served seven consecutive points in the first game and five straight in the second as CCS (8-1) beat Blue Mountain 15-9, 15-5, 15-4 at Pendleton, Ore., to preserve its lead in the NWAACC’s East Division.
