Affordable Housing Will Be Workshop Topic

Finding solutions to Spokane’s affordable-housing shortage is the focus of an all-day workshop at Mukogawa Commons on Thursday.

Co-sponsored by the Greater Spokane Coalition Against Poverty, the Spokane Council of Ecumenical Ministries and the Spokane Affordable Housing Campaign, Thursday’s gathering will bring together civic leaders, entrepreneurs, academics, volunteers and anyone else interested in examining the social, political and economic implications of inadequate housing.

“You can’t drive through downtown Spokane without realizing Spokane has a housing crisis,” says the coalition’s Jackie Brislin. “This workshop is intended for anybody and everybody who is interested in finding answers to this problem.”

Participants will consider possible funding sources, ways to better educate the public about affordable housing, and the implications of growth management.

The cost of Thursday’s workshop is $25 and includes lunch. Scholarships are available.
