Collins Makes Benn A Loser

Compiled From Wire Services

Ireland’s Steve Collins (34-3) defended his WBO super-middleweight title with a sixth-round victory over Nigel Benn (42-5-1), who said the loss would end his career. Benn, a 5-2 underdog, had placed a $240,000 bet on himself.

On the same card, Ronald Wright won a unanimous decision over England’s Ensley Bingham as the American kept his WBO light-middleweight title and England’s Naseem Hamed (24-0) stopped previously unbeaten Argentine Remigio Molina (27-1) with 28 seconds left in the second round to retain his WBO featherweight title.
