Troubled Boston College Gives Notre Dame A Run

An upset would certainly have eased Boston College’s pain. Notre Dame, however, would have none of it.

After a week in which 13 of its players were suspended for gambling, Boston College stayed with Notre Dame for nearly three quarters before losing 48-21 Saturday at Chestnut Hill, Mass.

For a while, all the talk of suspensions and scandals quieted as the Eagles rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to tie it 21-21 in the third quarter. But 17th-ranked Notre Dame (6-2) got touchdown runs of 81 and 11 yards from Robert Farmer in a 2:15 span to pull away.

Meanwhile, the Eagles (4-6) were hoping to put a tumultuous week behind them.

“We knew it was emotional,” BC quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said. “There were tears in guys’ eyes when we came out there. I know there were tears in my eyes.”
