The Washington Huskies will have to be content with the Cotton Bowl. Or the Holiday Bowl.
They won’t be going to the Rose Bowl.
The Huskies were 42-3 winners over Oregon State on Saturday, but their Rose Bowl hopes ended when Arizona State beat California to clinch a trip to Pasadena.
So Washington (7-2 overall, 6-1 in the Pac-10) will try to win its final two games - against San Jose State Saturday in Seattle and in the Apple Cup against Washington State in Pullman Nov. 23 - to get an invitation to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on New Year’s Day.
The Cotton Bowl invited Oregon over Washington last season and can select the WAC champion over the Pac-10 runner-up this year.
If the Huskies are passed up again for the Cotton Bowl, they’ll go to San Diego for the Holiday Bowl.
“You can’t help but be aware of all the Cotton Bowl talk,” guard Bob Sapp said. “It’s like waiting to exhale. We’ll just have to finish the season and see what bowl game we go to.”
