Woman Lands On Feet, Survives Six-Story Fall

Compiled From Wire Services

A woman trying to climb between two sixth-floor hotel balconies fell onto a concrete sidewalk and lived. Police say she survived because she landed on her feet.

Marilyn Lopez Whitehorse broke her pelvis and most of the bones in her legs in the fall early Saturday. But police Sgt. Cornel Heitzman said if she had not landed on her feet, she probably would have died.

“A witness … said he heard her screaming and saw a man trying to pull her back, but he wasn’t strong enough,” Heitzman said. “She fell and hit the sidewalk, legs first.”

After surgery for multiple fractures, Whitehorse was listed in satisfactory condition Sunday.

Heitzman said a group of people had been having a party in the room but left before police could interview them.
