Seafirst, Keybank Plan Atm Surcharge

From Staff And Wire Reports

Seafirst Bank and KeyBank have announced plans to impose a surcharge on non-customers who use their automated teller machines.

That means you can be charged twice for just one ATM transaction made at a machine that isn’t owned by your bank.

Seafirst Bank said Friday that beginning Nov. 17, the bank will charge non-customers $1.50 each time they use a cash machine at one of its branches. That’s in addition to whatever the person’s own bank charges.

Seafirst has 871 cash machines in Washington, including 374 at its 228 bank branches.

KeyBank will impose a $1 charge in mid-November for non-customers who use KeyBank machines that aren’t at branches, spokesman Rob Gill said.

U.S. Bank is considering a similar step, spokeswoman Mary Ruble said. But Seattle-based Washington Mutual said it has no plans to impose such a surcharge.
