Dying Trees Will Be Removed In Logan Area

With the help of community development dollars, the Logan neighborhood is shedding its dead and dying trees.

The Spokane City Council on Monday approved paying Ray McElfish Tree Specialists $32,413 to remove ailing trees in Logan.

Nearly $3,500 of that will be used to remove trees in West Central to make way for a sidewalk.

The tree removal project was a priority for the Logan Neighborhood Steering Committee.

On Monday, the council also:

Approved the final $732,230 contract with Inland Asphalt Company of Spokane to pave Napa Street from Sprague to Mission avenues, and Mission from Magnolia to Crestline streets.

Accepted the work done by the city Water Department in the Indian Trail neighborhood. The department added nearly 2,500 feet of water main and two hydrants in an area where residents frequently have complained about poor water pressure.

Vacated the alley between Joseph and Nebraska avenues from Haven to Market streets.

Vacated the north 8 feet of Alki Avenue next to Stock Steel.
