George Nuefeld Receives National Shhh Award

George Nuefeld, 88, was recently honored with the national SHHH Award (Self Help for Hard of Hearing) at the Coeur d’Alene Kiwanis Luncheon held at the Iron Horse Restaurant.

Nuefeld will receive $500 with the award for his efforts in helping hundreds of people with hearing loss.

Martin S. Mueller, chief engineer for his company MSM Design Inc., has been recognized and promoted to a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE).

Mueller, former chief engineer at Carter Equipment Co. and past recipient of the Technical Achievement Award for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, was honored for his development of a large-format (Vista Vision, Imax-format, and 65mm/ 5-perf, 8 perf, and 15-perf) camera systems widely used in special venue filmmaking and special effects production. These two contributions have led to important advances in motion picture production technology.

Mueller attended Stanford University, and is a member of the Technical Committee of International Space Theater Consortium, the board of the Coeur d’Alene Performing Arts Alliance and the Coeur d’Alene Citizens Council for the Arts.

Royce Cearley, Navy petty officer 1st class, has received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for outstanding achievement while serving as work center supervisor aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Shiloh, home-ported in San Diego.

Cearley is a 1982 graduate of St. Maries High School.
