Glickman Faces Raw Protest On Grains

Compiled From Wire Services

News conferences are usually tame affairs for Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman.

So Glickman was both shaken and amused Wednesday in Rome when several protesters opposed to genetically engineered crops interrupted a news conference by stripping and tossing grain at him.

The experience was “one of the more interesting things that’s ever happened to me on this job,” Glickman told U.S. reporters in a telephone news conference from the World Food Summit.

He asked the U.S. reporters not to try the same thing.
