New Car Museum Will Feature Autos Owned By Gleason, Jfk

Marvin Carr figures a chance to see Jackie Gleason’s limousine and JFK’s 1962 Lincoln Continental should be enough to draw crowds to the car museum he hopes to open next month in Hillyard.

But for good measure, he’s throwing in a one-of-a-kind 1979 Lincoln Silver Streak and a fully restored 1946 Chrysler four-door. Also, some Chinese antiques, a huge picture of Marilyn Monroe and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling.

But will it be worth the $10 admission?

“Definitely, that’s not much when you’re talking about seeing a half-million dollar car. We’re talking about some very expensive, very special cars. One of a kind,” said Carr.

That thought inspired the museum name: “Carr’s One of a Kind in the World.”

Construction of the 4,000-square foot showplace at 5225 N. Freya is nearly finished.

Memorabilia connected with each car’s owner will be displayed alongside the automobile. Carr wants to expand his collection, but said there is only enough space to add another car or two.

“I want to display them right,” he said.

Carr said he bought John F. Kennedy’s 1962 Lincoln Continental four-door six months ago in a Palm Beach auction.

He’s owned Jackie Gleason’s 1968 powder blue Lincoln stretch just a little longer. A bar setup and the original black and white TV set are in the back of “The Great One’s” car.

“It’s as flamboyant as he was,” said Carr.

The showroom will be opened limited hours: 7-10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Carr said he also hopes to offer tours to students and other groups.
