Young Boy Mugged By Teen

A teenager roughed up and robbed a 9-year-old boy in front of a Spokane Valley store Monday afternoon while the boy’s friend, also 9, watched in terror.

No one was injured during the 2 p.m. robbery. The suspect escaped with an undisclosed amount of money. He was described as 18, white and having spiked brown hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt, jeans cut off below the knees and white tennis shoes. He had a gold earring in his right ear.

The boys told deputies they were leaving Value Village, 13112 E. Sprague, when the teenager crossed McDonald Road and confronted them. He grabbed one of the boys by the shirt and pushed him against a building, said Lt. David Wiyrick.

The teen then demanded money from the boy and threatened him before running back across McDonald. From there, the teen left in a light-brown, full-size van. The boys said the beat-up van had a dent in the front bumper, black hub caps and possibly a CB antenna.

Convenience store robbed

No one was injured early Monday when a Valley convenience store was robbed.

A man in his 20s entered the 7-Eleven store at Pines and Mansfied about 3 a.m. He walked directly to the counter and demanded money, the clerk said.

The robber held one hand in his coat pocket during the robbery, but did not show a weapon. He took an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen running west from the store.

The robber was described as white, with short light brown or blond hair, and a goatee. He was wearing a plaid coat, and a black T-shirt, baseball cap and pants.

Two arrested for theft

Deputies arrested two people late Sunday for trying to steal playground equipment from a Valley preschool.

Jerry W. Clark, 24, and a 14-year-old boy both were arrested on charges of first-degree theft, a felony.

They were spotted near a play set inside a fenced yard at Little Dickens Learning Center, 2500 N. Pines, Wiyrick said. The equipment, valued at $3,000, was partially disassembled when deputies arrived about 10 p.m.

Clark was carrying a screw driver, pliers and other tools when he was arrested, Wiyrick said.

Pair arrested in burglary attempt

A man and woman accused of trying to break into an apartment were arrested last Thursday when a deputy saw the man return to the apartment.

James R. Grebe, 39, and Cindy L. Kasperski, 35, were booked into the Spokane County Jail for attempted residential burglary.

The duo was seen taking the screen off an apartment window and trying slide the window open, Wiyrick said.

The suspects were not at the complex when deputies arrived, but Grebe drove up in a car while they were investigating. A deputy noticed Grebe standing in the shadows south of the complex, and questioned and arrested him, Wiyrick said.

Deputies found evidence linking Grebe to the attempted burglary in his car, Wiyrick said. Kasperski was Arrested at 4706 E. First.
