Billings Man Among Missing Navy Officers

Spanish police helicopters searched Friday for two U.S. officers who failed to return from a hiking expedition in the snowy Sierra Nevada mountains.

Two U.S. Navy lieutenants who had been hiking near Spain’s highest peak were due back at the Rota Naval Base on Tuesday.

The officers were believed to have left on Sunday to hike the 11,500-foot Mount Mulhacen, but may have changed their itinerary when rain and snow began Monday, said Lt. Dan Hetlage, a Navy spokesman.

The officers, Lt. Brent Gregory, 28, of Billings, and Lt. Robin Lind, 28, of Ridley Park, Pa., were last seen at the coastal resort of Marbella on Saturday.
