Around the NBA

The Orlando Magic’s early-season fortunes suffered a blow Friday when the team learned that Penny Hardaway’s ailing left knee will require surgery that’ll sideline him up to six weeks.

The team said Hardaway, 25, will undergo exploratory arthroscopic surgery Sunday.

Iverson hurt, Hendrickson activated

Philadelphia 76ers rookie point guard Allen Iverson separated his shoulder in a 105-89 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 76ers’ team surgeon said Iverson would be sidelined for at least one week.

Earlier, the 76ers activated forward Mark Hendrickson, a rookie from Washington State, who has been on the injured list since Oct. 31 with a toe injury.

Sabonis injured, too

Portland center Arvydas Sabonis had to leave the Trail Blazers’ game against New Jersey on Friday night after injuring his right hip and elbow in a first-quarter fall. He did not return to the game.
