Mcveigh Bombing Trial Set For March

Compiled From Wire Services

Nearly two years after a rental van exploded and shredded the front of the Oklahoma City federal building, jury selection is scheduled to begin in the trial of bombing suspect Timothy McVeigh.

Prosecutors had wanted the trial to start in early February, and McVeigh’s lawyer, Stephen Jones, asked for April or May. But during a private meeting with attorneys, U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch settled on March 31.

“We thought it was important to start the trial before the second anniversary,” said Patrick Ryan of the U.S. attorney’s office in Oklahoma City.

McVeigh’s co-defendant, Terry Nichols, will be tried after the first trial ends.
