“We’re not sure exactly how it happened,” said Stan Reider, chief criminal deputy in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Reider said no charges have been filed and the case remains under investigation. He said he has been unable to question Brian Wojciechowski and some other family members.
The incident occurred during the early morning hours at Elwood Wojciechowski’s house in Waukon, about 12 miles southeast of Medical Lake. Wojciechowski and his son were by themselves at the time, Reider said.
He said only one handgun was involved, and Elwood Wojciechowski was “hit with an object.” There was no reason to believe alcohol was a factor, Reider said.
Declining to be more specific, Reider said the elder Wojciechowski “had injuries indicating some kind of a scuffle.”
