Compiled From Wire Services

Steffi Graf survived Jana Novotna’s inspired performance for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory, earning a return trip to the title match of the $2 million Chase Championships at New York.

In today’s best-of-5 sets final - the only time women play more than three sets - Graf will meet 16-year-old Martina Hingis of Switzerland, the No. 7 seed, who defeated 19-year-old Iva Majoli of Croatia 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Pete Sampras, ranked No. 1 in the world, survived a barrage of 35 aces by Goran Ivanisevic to reach the final of the ATP Tour World Championships with a 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory in Hanover, Germany.

German Boris Becker, the defending ATP champion and, like Sampras, seeking a record third title, rallied to defeat Richard Krajicek 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
