The University of Idaho volleyball team, behind the record-setting performance by senior setter Lynne Hyland, advanced to the second round of the Big West Conference tournament on Saturday with a 15-2, 12-15, 16-14, 15-6 victory over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Cal Poly was led by freshman middle blocker Kari DeSoto, who pounded out 18 kills and collected a match-best six blocks.

Idaho will face Pacific today at 6 p.m.

Asked if this win will help the Vandals gain at at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, Hilbert replied: “Based on our powerful conference and our overall record, we need to win at least tomorrow night’s match to have a shot at making the tournament.” < The Community Colleges of Spokane fell short in this quest for the NWAACC tournament championship at Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Ore.

The Sasquatch lost the title match to Clackamas by scores of 15-6, 15-1, 17-15.
