Man Finally Rid Of Slug In Head
Eleven years after Ted Faber was accidentally shot in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun slug, he’s finally rid of the chunk of lead that’s almost three-quarters of an inch in diameter.
It worked its way out in his mouth.
“How many people do you know have been shot in the head and lived to tell about it?” Faber’s dentist, Steven Hall, told The Grand Rapids Press.
Faber, now 79, was hunting in 1985 when the heavy slug ricocheted off the ground, smashed his glasses and lodged in his face.
Doctors patched the wound but couldn’t remove the slug because it was close to an artery.
“It affected my speech a little,” Faber said. “I noticed when singing songs in church I couldn’t sing three hallelujahs.”
A week ago, his tongue felt sore and he had difficulty swallowing.
On Monday, he went to Hall, who spotted the round slug emerging in his mouth and removed it.
“Eleven years later, we’re still very thankful,” said Faber’s wife, Florence.
