One-Two Finish Repeated

Compiled From Wire Services

Irina Slutskaya of Russia and American Tara Lipinski performed lackluster, error-prone programs at the Nations Cup women’s figure skating competition. Still, they were able to repeat their one-two finish of two weeks ago in Canada.

Both Slutskaya and Lipinski faltered on triple jumps, and their subdued presentations split the judging panel, four for the more experienced Slutskaya, three for Lipinski, competing internationally for the third year.

In Halifax, Nova Scotia, Brian Boitano and Kristi Yamaguchi skated away with $260,000 apiece for winning the Gold figure skating championship.

Boitano recorded an overall score of 197.8 and won $260,000 for his efforts. Crowd favorite Scott Hamilton was second at 197.5.

On the women’s side, Yamaguchi survived a fall in her technical program to post a score of 197.6.
