Analysis

The Hawks still love to hate the Raiders, but man, it’s not easy getting worked up about a 4-7 opponent. Seattle better drum up distaste, though, because a loss here and the Hawks have little chance of playing in January.

Oakland and Seattle have many parallels. The Raiders’ mettlesome Al Davis and the Hawks’ scorned Ken Behring aren’t owners as much as targets for fans’ contempt. Davis has drawn up plays in his luxury box and had them sent down to the head coach on the sidelines.

Likewise, the Raiders and Seahawks have quality personnel and not enough wins to show for it. Despite Tim Brown’s 64 receptions and two running backs averaging 5.5 yards per carry, Oakland’s offense plods along.

Despite tackles Chester McGlockton, Russell Maryland and Jerry Ball and solid corners in Albert Lewis and Terry McDaniel, the Raiders haven’t come up with enough stops.

It all points to a close game. A quick scan of the Raiders shows wins of 14, 21, 16 and 9 points, and losses of 5, 16, 6, 2, 1, 3, and 3. Seattle barely beat the clock in three of its wins. Make that four after today.
