Vietnamese Chief Won’t Recover Soon

Compiled From Wire Services

President Le Duc Anh will probably not recover sufficiently from a recent stroke to resume his government duties, at least not any time soon, government officials and diplomats said Saturday.

Anh, who turns 76 on Dec. 1, has been hospitalized for more than a week after suffering a stroke brought on by high blood pressure. He was partially paralyzed by the stroke.

A retired general and former commander of Vietnam’s occupying forces in Cambodia during the 1980s, Anh has been the conservative voice of the ruling Communist Party.
