Eric Scharnhorst Chosen Scholar Of The Month

Eric Scharnhorst, a senior at Lake City High School, has been chosen as the November Rotary Scholar of the Month by the Coeur d’Alene Rotary Club.

Scharnhorst, who maintains a 4.0 grade-point average, has participated in baseball and cross country for four years and serves as co-captain of the cross country team.

He is president of the Honor Society and is a member of leadership class, Idaho Drug Free Youth and Young Volunteers in Action. He has participated in programs such as Coats for Kids, Red Ribbon Week, Special Friends and the food drive.

Byron Leu, son of Ronald Leu, Hayden Lake, graduated from the aerospace ground equipment mechanic apprentice course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

Leu is a 1995 graduate of Lakeland High School.

Linda Kirk Fox, University of Idaho extension family economics specialist, recently received a Distinguished Service Award from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

Fox, project director for the award-winning national satellite video conference “Enhancing the Financial Literacy of Older Youth,” received the award in recognition of leadership, professional growth and outstanding programs.

Fox is also a team member of Pathways from Poverty and directs the statewide Idaho Family Nutrition Program, an educational program that prepares paraprofessionals in the community to assist low-income families in acquiring skills in resource management and nutrition.

Cindy Robison recently received the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Commendation for Customer Service for this quarter.

Robison, a Native American and social worker with the Adult Mental Health Program in Coeur d’Alene since 1994, was cited for bringing a unique cultural and community perspective to the program and also for assessing a very high at-risk group of consumers with disabilities and helping them find suitable housing within a year with the assistance of the Idaho Housing program.
