Linda Thomas St. Maries

Memorial service for Linda L. Thomas, 57, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.

She grew up in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School, where she was a member of the Color Girls Pep Club in 1956.

She later moved to St. Maries and worked at Regulus Stud Mill as a dry kiln and boiler operator from 1976 to 1991.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Millwood Presbyterian Church of Spokane and a former member of Job’s Daughters Chapter No. 3.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; five sons, Bill Swam of Lewiston, and Terry Swam, Billy Thomas Jr., Eric Thomas and Dirk Mauro, all of St. Maries; four daughters, Diane Lounsbury, Vickie Schwartz and Angel Donohoe, all of St. Maries, and Chrissy Megee of California; brother, Robert Buchan of California; sister, Sharon Buck of Maryland; foster daughter, Terry Derry; and 20 grandchildren.

Thomas Schmitz Elk

Memorial service for Thomas Andrew “Tom” Schmitz, 42, was Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Nezperce, Idaho. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schmitz died Nov. 19. He was born in Cottonwood, Idaho.

He graduated from Nezperce High School and the University of Idaho.

He worked with the Corps of Engineers at the Lower Granite Dam for four years and spent the past nine years at the Albeni Falls Dam as chief of operations and supervisory mechanical engineer.

He married Barbara Lahtinen Choat in 1989 in Moscow, Idaho. They lived in Newport before moving to Elk.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Kristine Schmitz of Nezperce; five brothers, Jon Elven and Tim Schmitz, both of Skamakawa, Wash., Jerry Elven and Bill Schmitz, both of Nezperce and Dana Schmitz of St. Maries; three sisters, Judy Elven of Bremerton, Mary Ann Hess of Nezperce and Peggy Duman of Lewiston.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

Albert Manly Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Albert W. Manly, 86, will be today at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Interment will be at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene.

Mr. Manly, who was born in Cranbrook, British Columbia, died Friday. He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and attended North Idaho College. He worked as a baker for several years at the Pines Bakery and Silver Loaf Bakery.

Mr. Manly later worked for the Pepsi-Cola Co. for more than 20 years before retiring in 1976.

He was a member of the local Democratic Party and the North Idaho College Booster Club.

Mr. Manly was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in 1986. Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Schultz of Coeur d’Alene and Judy Hollenbeck of Post Falls; five grandchildren, Rob, Kim, Kelli, Brett and Derrick; and three great-grandchildren.

Roland Sisk Sr. Mullan, Idaho

Inurnment for Roland Harry Sisk Sr., 88, will be held later at Mountain View Cemetery in Mullan. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sisk, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Sunday.

He attended schools in South Dakota and moved to the Silver Valley in 1936 from Oregon.

He had worked as a carpenter.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen; a son, Roland Sisk Jr. of Mullan; two sisters, Helen Klages of Puyallup, Wash., and Marjorie Wirt of South Dakota; three grandchildren, Mike, Sandra and Karen; and three great-grandchildren.

John Brumbaugh Jr. Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for John W. Brumbaugh Jr. was held Monday in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brumbaugh, who was born in Johnstown, Pa., died Friday.

He had lived in Illinois and Arizona. In 1976, he became a long haul mover for Mayflower Transit, where he worked for 18 years.

Mr. Brumbaugh moved to Bonners Ferry in 1994 and worked as a parttime truck driver for the Selkirk Seed Trucking Co.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; a son, John Brumbaugh of California; a daughter, Jenny Garcia of Bonners Ferry; two brothers, Claude Brumbaugh and Irma Brumbaugh, both of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Mary Kinsey and Imogene Rothermel, both of Illinois, and Ruby Tenbrink of California; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Cassie (Palmer) Mell Spokane

Visitation for Cassie Evelyn (Palmer) Mell, 98, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mell died Thursday, her 98th birthday.

She was born in Meridian, Idaho.

She graduated from Meridian High School and began teaching in Mink Creek, Idaho.

She returned to Meridian and met the Rev. Carman Mell. They were married in 1920.

She and her husband shared the work of his pastorates in Washington, Oregon, Kansas, California and Idaho. Mrs. Mell also worked as an assistant dietician in California and served on many church boards in Washington.

The Mells’ last full-time pastorate was at the First Christian Church in Moscow, Idaho. They then settled in Spokane in 1957 and continued doing interim pastorate work at several churches in the Northwest.

Mrs. Mell was past president of Church Women United and Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a member of North Hill Christian Church.

Her husband died in 1971 and she became a charter tenant at Lilac Plaza.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna Lorenson of Fremont, Calif., Fern Goss and Neva Royer, both of Eugene, Ore., and Carmen Halstead of Boise; four sons, Dean Mell of Mount Vernon, Wash., Keith Mell of Fiddletown, Calif., Galen Mell of Missoula and Arthur Mell of Spokane; 31 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
