Heat In A Bottle

When former Honolulu police officers J.R. Thomas (aka “Mango”) and Morgan Matheson-Thomas (aka “Chili”) moved here five years ago, they knew they had to figure out some way to stay warm.

So they opened a store specializing in hot sauces, and now are selling one under their own label: Mango ‘n Chili “Lost in Spokane” hot pepper sauce, manufactured for them by a Canadian company.

Its impressive fire, from japone, jalapeno and habanero peppers, is balanced by a full, rich flavor. Their “Lost,” you might say, is our gain.

Price: About $5 for 5 ounces.

Available: In Spokane at Mango ‘n Chili (9301 N. Division), Copper Colander and Spokane International Airport gift shop. For information, call 468-5292.
