Yarber Now An Assistant For Unlv

Eric Yarber, who played for the University of Idaho and has served as assistant football coach for the Vandals the past three seasons, has accepted a job at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

“Eric’s a great Vandal,” Idaho coach Chris Tormey said. “It’s hard to lose him.”

It’s equally hard for Yarber to leave.

“I’ll always have a warm spot in my heart for the University of Idaho,” Yarber said. “For all the U of I faculty, the coaches, the players, my teammates.

“Coming here gave me an opportunity to play pro ball and to get my degree. It’s not a goodbye but an I’ll-see-you-later.”

As receivers coach at UNLV, Yarber returns to the position he played.

Yarber was the Big Sky Conference’s leading receiver in 1985 when he caught 75 passes for 1,103 yards, an effort that earned him Big Sky MVP honors.

The Washington Redskins drafted Yarber in the 12th round and he played on their 1988 Super Bowl championship team.

Tormey has hired former Washington State cornerback Greg Burns to replace Yarber.
