Wwp Plans To Drop Idaho Gas Rates

From Staff And Wire Reports

Washington Water Power Co. natural gas customers in Idaho could get a rate break Nov. 1.

The Spokane-based utility Monday filed a request with regulators for an 8.5 percent rollback that would drop natural gas prices to their lowest level since October 1979. An average homeowner using 83 therms of gas per month would save $3.05.

The annual adjustment would be the third in a row to trim the utility bills of Idaho residents. Over that period, rates will have dropped a total 29 percent.

Rates and Tariffs Manager Tom Dukich said the cuts reflect the availability of cheaper gas from WWP suppliers in Canada.

Spokesman Pat Lynch said WWP will seek a rate adjustment for its Washington customers in November. A filing in Oregon is due by Oct. 15.
