Minnick Wants More Debates With Craig

From Staff And Wire Reports

Democratic challenger Walt Minnick is so happy with his performance in Sunday night’s televised debate that he wants four more face-offs with Republican U.S. Sen. Larry Craig.

“I sincerely hope that Larry Craig would be willing to debate me a few more times, especially in different regions around Idaho,” Minnick said.

But the Craig campaign said meeting Idaho voters is a higher priority.

Craig and Minnick, along with independent Mary Charbonneau and Natural Law Party candidate Susan Vegors, met Sunday night in a debate carried statewide on Idaho Public Television.

A second debate is scheduled Oct. 29 in Boise, and Craig campaign spokesman Mike Tracy said that likely is all Minnick will get.

“Right now that’s all we have plans for. The bus tour will take up the bulk of October and we feel that’s important,” Mike Tracy said.

Craig plans to begin a statewide bus tour Oct. 9 from Caldwell. It is scheduled to continue through Oct. 26 and include more than 200 cities.
