Irene Carter Spokane

Vigil service for Irene J. Carter, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter, 76, died Monday.

She was a graduate of Holy Names Academy and attended Holy Names College.

She and her husband, Paul, founded Sound Recording Co. in the early 1950s.

After her husband died, she continued to manage the company until 1995.

She was an accomplished musician and played the piano and the harp and was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 105.

Survivors include two brothers, Frank Perno of Colbert and James Perno of Spokane.

Nettie Coffman Moscow, Idaho

Service for Nettie J. Coffman, 97, will be at 10 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Freeze Cemetery, north of Potlatch, Idaho.

Mrs. Coffman, who died Monday at Latah Health Services in Moscow, was born in Potlatch.

She married Clyde Jeffers in 1918 in Colfax, Wash. He died in 1952.

In 1954, she married Elmer Coffman in Colfax. He died in 1962.

Mrs. Coffman lived in Colfax until 1981, when she moved to Latah Health Services.

Survivors include a son, Ancel Jeffers of Palouse; three daughters, Lula Schultz of Potlatch, Arva Lee Miller of Pullman and Bula Lyund of Troy, Idaho; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or Latah Health Services.

Zula Colbert Spokane

Memorial service for Zula L. Colbert, a longtime Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Pateros, Wash., Mrs. Colbert died Monday. She was 91.

She had lived in the Methow Valley and homesteaded in Okanogan, Wash., before she moved to Spokane.

She graduated from college in Bellingham with a teaching certificate and taught on the Colville Indian Reservation.

In the Spokane Valley, she operated a vegetable farm and also worked as a bookkeeper for several construction companies.

Her husband, Horace Colbert, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Thompson of Spokane and Patti Pell of Hayden Lake, Idaho; a sister, Hazel Elordi of Marsing, Idaho; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Irene (Pendell) Christoph Spokane

Memorial service for Irene Juanita (Pendell) Christoph, 79, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Covenant Christian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Christoph, who died Sept. 25, was born in Barry, Wash.

She moved to Almira, Wash., with her family in the early 1930s. She graduated from Almira High School.

In 1936, she married Lester Christoph, and they moved to Grand Coulee.

They later lived on a farm in Hayden Lake, Idaho, and with their children in Coeur d’Alene, where Mrs. Christoph worked in a bakery.

She and her husband built a home in Post Falls, where they lived for 10 years.

She had lived in Spokane for 22 years. Her husband died in 1993.

She is survived by a son, Marvin Christoph of Veradale; two daughters, Sharon Kelly of Spokane and Velda Reinbold of Valleyford; a sister, Wanda Gould of Cheney; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Olga Smith Spokane

Graveside service for Olga Louise Smith, 81, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smith, who died Sept. 25, was born in Warren, N.H.

She had lived in Spokane for 40 years.

Her husband, Ellsworth Smith, died in 1980.

Survivors include three sons, Ellsworth Smith of Springfield, Ma., Julian Smith of Sparks, Nev., and Leslie Smith of Denver; two daughters, Nancy J. Frechette of Milton, Fla., and Gail Achels of Fairbanks, Alaska; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mary Agnes (Crandall) Weiler Spokane

Vigil service for Mary Agnes Crandall Weiler, 83, is planned for 7:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Weiler, a longtime Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in Elliott, N.D.

She was a charter member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Altar Society and Concern Group, and the Lady Sewing Group for St. Joseph.

Her husband, Bernard Weiler, preceded her in death.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel and Thomas Weiler, both of Spokane, and Michael Weiler of Reno, Nev.; two daughters, Patti Duke of Kent, Wash., and Benita Robison of Loon Lake, Wash.; a brother, Charles Crandall of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a sister, June Crandall of San Diego; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contribution may be made to the House of Charity.

LaVaun Faulkner Spokane

Visitation for LaVaun B. Faulkner, 81, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Faulkner, a 50-year Spokane resident, died Monday.

She was born in Quincy, Wash., and had lived in Wallace, Arlee, Mont., and Loon Lake, Wash., and at Lake Pend Oreille.

She worked at the 25 Club in Spokane as a waitress and cook and owned and operated Doc’s Tavern in Spokane for more than 40 years ago.

Her husband, Robert Faulkner, died earlier.

She is survived by a stepson, Robert Faulkner of Spokane; a sister, Betty Santora of Spokane; and three grandsons.

Johnnie Barnes Spokane

Visitation for Johnnie H. Barnes, a retired Air Force major, is scheduled from noon to 9 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Vigil service will be at 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral Mass and burial will be Friday in Cottonwood, Idaho.

Mr. Barnes, who died Tuesday, was born in Pineville, La. He was 74.

He entered the Air Force in 1942 and was discharged in 1961. He had lived in Spokane since 1968.

In 1965, he married Juanita Wimer of Cottonwood, in Spokane. She died in 1988.

He worked for United Way from 1968 until 1977, when he retired.

He is survived by a brother, Arthur “Jack” Barnes of Alexandria, La.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the United Way of Spokane.

Hazel Holt Spokane

Visitation for Hazel M. Holt, 96, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Covenant Christian Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Holt, who died Monday, was born in Sheridan, Wyo.

She lived in the Spokane Valley as a child and returned to Spokane in 1948.

She was a drapery maker and had worked for Tull and Gibbs, Barklay Brown and J.C. Penney.

Mr. Holt was a member of Covenant Christian Church.

She is survived by a sister, Velma Jaques of Spokane.

Merlin Bomstad Spokane

Memorial service for Merlin H. Bomstad, 59, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Bomstad, a retired Kaiser Aluminum employee, died Monday.

Born in Fargo, N.D., he was a 50-year Spokane resident and was a member of the Wandermere Men’s Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Pam Bomstad of Seattle; two sons, Michael and Robert Bomstad, both of Spokane; his parents, Harold and Marie Bomstad; a sister, Clarine Slentz of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Helen Looney Spokane

Memorial service for Helen Grady Looney, 84, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery.

Mrs. Looney, who died Saturday at Riverview Care Center in Spokane, was born in Medical Lake.

She graduated from Colfax High School and Kinman Business College and worked for Grady Drug, Washington Water Power Co. in Colfax, and the Whitman County Auditor’s Office.

In 1961, she married Russell Looney and they farmed in the Dusty, Wash., area, until they retired in 1989 and moved to Spokane.

Her husband died in 1991.

Survivors include a stepson, Donnell Looney, and a stepdaughter, Carol Davin, both of Walla Walla.

Lee Tyson Ephrata, Wash.

Graveside service for Lee A. Tyson, 96, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Soap Lake (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Tyson, who died last Thursday, was born on a farm in Idaho, near Kennedy Ford.

He was a farmer in the St. Maries area and operated secondhand/antique stores in St. Maries, Snohomish, Wash., and Goldendale, Wash., before he retired to Soap Lake. He later moved to Ephrata.

Mr. Tyson is survived by a son, Elbert Tyson of Clayton, Wash.; two daughters, Viola Rutherford of Sequim, Wash., and Helen Dennis of Spokane; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edward Level Kettle Falls, Wash.

Memorial service for Edward E. Level, 43, will be at 3 p.m. Friday, at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash.

Born in Lake Chelan, Wash., Mr. Level died Sunday.

He had lived in Kettle Falls for 15 years and worked as a welder for Colmac Industries in Colville.

He was a Vietnam War Army veteran.

Mr. Level is survived by a daughter, Melissa Level of Kettle Falls; three sons, Josh and Joseph Level, both of Kettle Falls, and Jacob Level of Centralia, Wash.; a brother, Cliff Hayden of San Manuel, Ariz; and his mother, Helen Somday of Malo, Wash.
