Patrol Car Strikes, Kills Pedestrian

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Pierce County sheriff’s department patrol car struck and killed a pedestrian early Thursday while responding to a disturbance call.

The sheriff’s deputy, Kristine Elkins, was dispatched shortly after 2 a.m. to a report of a customer causing trouble at Fox’s nightclub on Pacific Avenue. At 2:25 a.m., the reporting party called police again and said the man was now in the parking lot and had a gun.

En route to the call, Elkins’ patrol car struck a man who apparently was in the roadway, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The pedestrian, who was not connected to the disturbance report, had been staying at a motel next to where the accident occurred. He died at the scene.

The county medical examiner’s office identified the pedestrian as Shane Lowry, 25, of Parkland.
