City Council Considers Appeal Of Development

The Spokane City Council tonight will consider an appeal of a five-lot development proposed for Cannon’s Addition.

Clint Townsend wants to build four homes on 1.6 acres he owns just south of Elm Street and 12th Avenue. The property already has one single-family house. The city hearing examiner approved Townsend’s proposal July 29. But William Heitner appealed the decision, saying the lot size doesn’t mesh with the area’s land-use plan.

Also tonight, council members will consider increasing the maximum contract amount the city manager can approve to $25,000.

Currently, Acting City Manager Bill Pupo can sign contracts worth less than $15,000 without council approval.

“These are minor contracts for the acquisition of goods, such as gun bullets, park supplies, automobile tires, oil filters, that kind of stuff,” Pupo said. “This helps streamline the agenda.”
