Corsican Group Says It Detonated Bomb

Compiled From Wire Services

A Corsican separatist group claimed responsibility Monday for a bomb that heavily damaged Bordeaux’s City Hall. Premier Alain Juppe - who is mayor of Bordeaux - vowed to dismantle the group.

Known by its French acronym FLNC, the Corsican group issued a one-line statement reading: “Claim: Attack City Hall of Bordeaux 10/5/96. FLNC.”

Juppe vowed “to fight terrorism in all its forms in Corsica, as in any other part of the national territory, with the same determination as that used last year when our country was confronted with other terrorist violence.”
