Jewell Grants Fbi A Six-Hour Interview

Compiled From Wire Services

Richard Jewell granted the FBI a six-hour interview Sunday, and his lawyers say they expect it will lead authorities to clear the former security guard in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.

Jewell has maintained his innocence, and the interview was an attempt to persuade the FBI to remove Jewell from its list of suspects, said Lin Wood, a member of Jewell’s legal team.

But federal prosecutors gave no guarantees that they would comply with Jewell’s request for a letter clearing him of blame, Wood said.

U.S. Attorney Kent Alexander and FBI spokesman Jay Spadafore declined to comment on the Sunday meeting. But during a court hearing Tuesday, Alexander said, “If it turns out (Jewell) is not involved, I’ll regret that deeply. And we’ll deal with that down the road.”
