Man Pleads Guilty To Manslaughter Price Originally Charged With Murder After Shooting Woman In The Back

A Spokane man pleaded guilty to manslaughter Tuesday in the shotgun slaying of a woman outside her home last December.

Adrian Price, 49, of Spokane was originally charged with second-degree murder.

Price killed Megan Marie Winebrenner, 19, when he fired a single round from a sawed-off shotgun, authorities said.

The shooting followed an angry Christmas night confrontation between Price and people attending a holiday party at Winebrenner’s northeast Spokane house.

Price called police and asked for help in dealing with the party next door. After being told officers couldn’t immediately respond, Price told the operator, “I’m fixing to go out there and do it myself.”

The dispute escalated into a yelling match in the early morning hours of Dec. 26, followed by Winebrenner and two others jumping over the fence onto Price’s property. He then ran inside his house.

When he came out, he aimed the gun in their direction, he later told police.

While Winebrenner was retreating toward her house, the gun fired. She was hit in the back.

The shooting wasn’t an accident, Deputy Prosecutor Dannette Allen said Tuesday. “The steps it took (to fire the gun) were acts of intention,” she said.

Price also pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for wounding Gary Santoro in the same shotgun blast.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 15 in Spokane County Superior Court. Price faces 6-1/2 to 7-1/2 years in prison.
