Staples, Mongolian Barbecue To Anchor Phase Ii Of Ironwood Square

Nils Rosdahl The Spokesman-Rev

The spaces in Phase II of Ironwood Square in Coeur d’Alene are being penciled in with definite, probable and “with-any-luck tenants.” The basic structure of the 46,340-square-foot building should be complete in early November, and some tenants hope to move in as soon as possible.

The L-shaped structure is attached to Pay Less Drugs, which is at the eastern end of Phase I of Ironwood Square, and heads east to Government Way, where it makes a 90-degree turn to the south. From seven to nine stores are within the L, while another two are slated for pads between the main structure and Ironwood Drive.

The two end stores for the addition are inked in; they’re definite and will be the steadfast anchors as Phase II opens. They are Staples, a 24,500-square-foot office supply and equipment store connecting to the Pay Less end, and Mongolian barbecue, a restaurant of 3,500 square feet.

With headquarters in Framington, Mass., Staples has about 360 stores in the United States and Canada and employs about 15,000 people, with about 30 in each store. The 10-year-old company combines retail stores and catalog delivery.

Featuring a choose-it-yourself-and-we’ll-stir-fry-it-while-you-watch menu, Mongolian barbecue will be at the south end of the L. The store will include 84 tables and a takeout service. Owners are sisters Angella Wigton and Alisa Jensen and their father, David Jensen of Sandpoint. They will have 15 to 20 employees. David’s brother Mark has four Mongolian barbecues in the Boise area.

Next to Staples will be Crosby’s Floral & Gift, which is moving from its Fourth Street store.

Crosby’s offers full-service floral services, specializing in weddings and wire-service delivery. The gift portion of the store will grow by 10-fold and feature gourmet gift baskets and hard-to-find card lines.

The business is owned by Regina and Bing Crosby; he is grandson of the famous singer who owned a summer home on Hayden Lake. Regina was raised in Coeur d’Alene, and Bing came here from Boise. They’ve had the business for five years.

With the move and expansion, the Crosbys plan to expand their floral shop’s peakseason four employees to six.

A tanning salon is dotted in between Crosby’s and Fantastic Sams, a full-service hair care salon, also facing Ironwood Drive.

The 1,500-square-foot business will employ 10 or 11 people and joins about 1,800 Fantastic Sams nationwide. Dennis and Carol Holloway, who also have the new Post Falls store, are the owners. They moved from Spokane to Post Falls about a year ago and are hoping to add more stores in North Idaho.

The nine-station store will be a walk-in shop with no appointments.

Phase II’s large corner space doesn’t have a definite tenant, but rumors are that it will be a furniture store, possibly a Walkers’ Furniture store, expanding from Spokane. Principal developers weren’t ready to comment.

A 3,000-square-foot Jack-in-the-Box restaurant, with eat-in seating and a drive-through, is slated for the pad on the Ironwood Square-Government Way corner. A second pad, with a tenant not selected, will be between Jack-in-the-Box and Schlotsky’s Deli along Ironwood Drive.

Ironwood Square is owned by First Western Development of Edmonds, Wash. Leasing agent is Shawn McMahon of Acuff Northwest Realty. Phone 667-8406 in Coeur d’Alene.

Glen Walker & Associates, an office of six lawyers and eight support employees, is constructing a 6,000-square-foot building in the northeast corner of Foster Avenue and Fourth Street, Coeur d’Alene.

Walker, a 19-year Coeur d’Alene resident and former Kootenai County prosecutor, and his troops will occupy the 3,000-square-foot second floor and about half of the first floor. The rest will be leased.

Walker’s firm, which specializes in trial law, includes Suzanna Graham, Neil Walter, Clinton Minor, Tony Tompkins and newcomer Blaine Horrocks. The firm focuses on cases involving personal injury, criminal defense, divorce and business law, Walker said.

The firm moved last week to Suite 200 in the Coeur d’Alene North Building after outgrowing offices in Old City Hall. They hope to be in their building in early April.
