Kilmer Isn’t A Big Jerk; He’s Just Misunderstood

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

Val Kilmer has been the victim of a bad rap. At least that’s what he believes.

In an interview with Associated Press writer Lynn Elber, Kilmer says he opted out of the “Batman” sequel because of time constraints. Warner Bros. “made the choice to make (the sequel) immediately the next year. That’s never happened with a sequel that size.”

As for reports that he had director Richard Stanley fired off “The Island Of Dr. Moreau,” Kilmer says, “You know and everyone in the business knows that nobody can get a director fired. The director gets fired because the studio says, ‘We’re going to lose money.”’

Kilmer says his image problems stem from not having “any discipline about defending myself.”

Loose talk

Chris O’Donnell, 26, on his reluctance to discuss his innermost reflections (in Playboy magazine): “As far as politics and stuff go, I’ve got thoughts, but they’re just things I think. I don’t have what I consider to be well-formed ideas.”

Sammy Hagar sends his best

David Lee Roth turns 41 today.

And sometimes you’re stupid enough to admit it

More on that forthcoming book by the Duchess of York’s ex-psychic, Madame Vasso: Fergie liked the “incredibly endowed” Texan Steve Wyatt, but wasn’t particularly taken with toe-sucking “financial adviser” John Bryan. So why did she sleep with him? “Sometimes,” the duchess reportedly told Vasso, “you just do these things.”

And Cramer is all set to take over for Mr. Rogers

If you’re wondering how much longer “Seinfeld” will be broadcast, you might bet on one more season. Jason Alexander, who plays George, has signed to star in a Broadway musical version of the 1955 film “Marty.” The scheduled starting date: 1998.

He’s not a cop, but he does play one on television

When a real-life crook stumbled onto the set of “Homicide: Life on the Streets,” he mistook stars Richard Belzer and Clark Johnson for real cops and gave himself up. But neither actor wanted to do the official thing. “The Screen Actors Guild bylaws say I don’t have to arrest anyone,” Belzer quipped.

She’s not heartbroken, but she sure can act as if she is

So, yeah, John F. Kennedy Jr. is all happy with new wifey Carolyn Bessette. But what about his ex-squeeze, actress Daryl Hannah? Seems she handled the news by secluding herself in a teepee somewhere in the wilds near Telluride, Colo. One report alleges that she was in mourning.

Think maybe they know something that we don’t?

Michael Jackson is busy touring Asia, but he won’t be stopping in Malaysia. Authorities there have denied him permission to perform. The stated reason: They’re afraid that he’ll corrupt the country’s youth.
