Henry Rose Moses Lake

Visitation for Henry P. “Hank” Rose, 67, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial at Fairmount Memorial Park. Mr. Rose, who was born in Evans, Wash., died Tuesday.

He came to Spokane in 1942 and attended Rogers High School.

He worked for HyGrade Foods in Spokane from 1945 to 1979, when the plant closed. He then moved to Moses Lake. He had worked for Vern’s Moses Lake Meats for the past 13 years.

Mr. Rose was a member of the Moses Lake Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce Rose; three sons, Stephan and Gary Rose, both of Spokane, and Ralph Rose of Harrisburg, Ill.; a daughter, Debby Lanes of Spokane; a brother, John Rose of Coleman, Mich.; two sisters, Betty Bussard of Spokane and Wilma Hoose of Soap Lake, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

William Bieber Spokane

Service for William L. “Bill” Bieber, a retired Air Force major, will be at 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Bieber, 73, died Tuesday.

Born and raised in Denver, he retired from the Air Force after 20 years. He was a decorated veteran and flew more than 30 missions during World War II and 17 missions in Korea.

He was a 39-year Spokane resident and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10493 and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1435 and District 9. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, 467th Bomb Group, the Military Order of Cooties, Masonic Lodge No. 249, Scottish Rite, Valley Shrine Club and the Moonshiners.

He was also a ham radio operator.

His first wife, Virginia, died in 1987.

Mr. Bieber is survived by his wife of seven years, Anita Bieber; five sons, Larry Bieber of Coeur d’Alene, and Dan, Mike, Tim and Lee Bieber, all of Spokane; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Kedric Baker Deer Park

Graveside service for Kedric Baker, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Dayton (Wash.) City Cemetery. Memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baker, a longtime Deer Park, area resident died Sunday.

He was born on his family’s homestead in Kahlotus, Wash.

He graduated from Kahlotus High School and attended Washington State College.

He was a wheat rancher in Franklin County for many years before moving to Deer Park in the 1960s.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Baker; two daughters, Janice Dicus of Fall City, Wash., and Lana Baker of Maui, Hawaii; two sons, Beryl Baker of Clayton, Wash., and Jay Baker of Deer Park; two sisters, Aileen Van Buren of Walla Walla and Gertrude Jacklyn of Aberdeen, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mary (Fifer) Crewdson Newport, Wash.

Service for Mary Margaret (Fifer) Crewdson, 60, is set for 2 p.m. today at Open Door Congregational Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Crewdson, who died Saturday, was born in Washington, and worked as a baker at Safeway in Newport.

She is survived by two daughters, Lynette Alexander of Colbert and Sue Stevenson of Spokane; a son, Don Fifer of Otis Orchards; her mother, Margaret Crewdson of Newport; her companion, Jim Evans of Newport; three brothers, Jim Crewdson of Sprague, Wash., George “Bud” Crewdson of Orient, Wash., and Harold Crewdson of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters, Dolly Baumgardner of Seward, Alaska, and Kathaleen Dellinger of Clayton, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Carol Geist Spokane

Service for Carol C. Geist, 65, will be at 11 a.m. today at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Westhope, N.D., Mrs. Geist died Tuesday.

She moved to Spokane with her family in 1944 and graduated from North Central High School.

She retired from US West Communications after 41 years.

Mrs. Geist was a member and treasurer for the Women’s Association of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the American Cancer Society Office and with the “Coats 4 Kids” project.

She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Alpha Rho Chapter, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

She is survived by a son, Rick Geist of Spokane; two sisters, Donna Treffry and Gayle Snedden; a brother, Larry Phelps; and four grandchildren.

Gordon Michael Spokane

Memorial service for Gordon G. Michael, a retired Air Force major, is set for 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Private burial will be at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Mr. Michael, 79, died Sunday.

He was born in Lewiston and graduated from high school in Craigmont, Idaho.

He attended the University of Idaho and entered the Army Air Corps in 1936. He served in World War II and the Korean War and retired in 1960.

Following his military career, he worked for the federal government for 16 years.

Mr. Michael moved to Spokane 20 years ago and was a member of South Hill Bible Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ruby Michael; and a daughter, Sandra Michael of Binghamton, N.Y.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Donald ‘Dean’ Matt Usk, Wash.

Funeral Mass for Donald E. “Dean” Matt, 54, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on the Kalispel Indian Reservation. Burial will at the Indian Cemetery on the reservation. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home of Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Matt died Monday at his home on the reservation, where he was born, near Usk, Wash.

He worked in construction and as a farm laborer throughout Eastern Washington.

Mr. Matt attended Spokane Falls Community College.

He is survived by a sister, Louise Garrick Becker.

Catherine Harke Spokane

Memorial service for Catherine B. Harke, 82, is set for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Harke, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Tuesday.

She graduated from North Central High School and was a member of the Arborettes Garden Club.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband of 60 years, Gerhart Harke, died in August.

She is survived by two sons, Gary and Monty Harke, both of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Ruth Clausen Spokane

Memorial Mass for Ruth L. Clausen, 73, is set for 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Clausen, who died Monday, was born in Louisville, Ky., and was a 49-year Spokane resident. She worked in the banking industry.

Mrs. Clausen was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and Lincoln Heights Senior Center.

She is survived by a son, Stephen Clausen of Concord, Calif.; a daughter, Pam Boyd of Spokane; a sister, Margaret McDonald; three brothers, Robert, Earl and Charles Schuetter, all of Louisville, Ky.; and a grandson.

Ruby Shanks Spokane

Visitation for Ruby Ann Shanks, 78, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service will follow at 1 p.m. at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. There will be private burial.

Mrs. Shanks, who died Tuesday, was born in Penawawa, Wash.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 68 years and was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Rebekah Lodge.

Mrs. Shanks is survived by her husband of 56 years, Michael; two daughters, Arlene Kirkevold and Cherlyn Hubert, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Inland Empire Diabetes Association or Shriners Hospital for Children.

James ‘Gibby’ Gebhard Spokane

Memorial service for James P. “Gibby” Gebhard, 22, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North.

Mr. Gebhard died Monday from stab wounds he suffered last Friday.

He was born in Billings, Mont., and was a 1992 Shadle Park High School graduate.

He was a wrestler at Shadle Park and was a partner in his father’s business, Gebhard Office Servicing.

He is survived by his mother, Toni Thompson of Sumpter, Ore.; his father and stepmother, Loren and Bonnie Gebhard of Spokane; several brothers and sisters; and his grandmother, Lucille Lehman of Central Point, Ore.

Sondra Jasper Mead

Service for Sondra Lee Jasper, 56, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Priest River, Idaho. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.

Mrs. Jasper, who died Sunday at home, was born in California, and had lived in the Mead and Spokane area for more than 23 years.

She worked in the banking industry for more than 25 years and had been employed by Washington Trust Bank in Spokane.

Survivors include her husband, Andy Jasper; two sons, Darren Sowers of Spokane and Doug Sowers of Seattle; two stepdaughters, Lani Flesher of Sandpoint and Lori Barnes of Priest Lake, Idaho; three brothers, Jerry and Tom Manes, and Ron Gonter; a sister, Joyce Helb; and five grandchildren.

Johanna (Rodkey) Roberts Omaha, Neb.

Memorial service for Johanna L. (Rodkey) Roberts, a former Spokane resident, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturdayat St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Spokane. Her brother, the Rev. Paul Rodkey, will preside at the service.

Mrs. Roberts, 50, died Sept. 7 in Omaha, where she had lived since 1992.

She graduated from Shadle Park High School and Washington State University, where she met her husband, Douglas Roberts.

After her husband completed McCormick Seminary in Chicago, the couple served in churches in Odessa, Wash., Bismarck, N.D., and Omaha.

Mrs. Roberts worked as a public assistance case worker in Chicago, as a supervisor of the corporate tax division of the state of North Dakota, and in Omaha she worked in the tax department of the Union Pacific Railroad.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Aaron Roberts of Minneapolis and Sam Roberts of Omaha; a daughter, Alexa Roberts of Omaha; her parents, John and Marie Rodkey of Spokane; a sister, Sharon Smith of Omaha; and a brother, Paul Rodkey of Spokane.

Harold Pfeifer Spokane

No service will be held for Harold Eugene Pfeifer, 46. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pfeifer, who died Monday, was born in Lewiston and graduated from Lapwai (Idaho) High School. He served in the Air Force, retiring after 24 years. He had served in the Vietnam War.

He was involved with the Boy Scouts and was an Eagle Scout. He attended the World Scout Jamboree held at Farragut State Park in 1967.

He had previously lived in Spokane and returned nine years ago.

Mr. Pfeifer is survived by his wife, Wanda Pfeifer; two daughters, April and Tonya Pfeifer, and a son, Bobby Pfeifer, all of Spokane; his father, Harold Bartlett of Lewiston; a sister, Crystal Bartlett of Seattle; a brother, Ed Bartlett of Yakima; his grandfather, Robert Leachman of Lewiston; and a granddaughter.

Maena Mae Moore Spokane

Service for Maena Mae Moore, 94, is planned for 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at LaCrosse (Wash.) Cemetery.

Born in Norwalk, Iowa, Mrs. Moore died Tuesday.

She operated a day-care center in Spokane and was a foster parent.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 54 years and was a member of Minnehaha Covenant Church and a former member of the LaCrosse Grange.

Her husband, Marshall Moore, died in 1965.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Moore of Spokane and Ellen “Betty” Luther of LaCrosse, Wash.; two sons, George Moore of Spokane and Harlan Moore of Olympia; four sisters, Myrtle Matson, Ruby Mayer and Annabel Bower, all of Spokane, and Daisy McSweyn of Portland; two brothers, George Bailey of Priest River, Idaho, and Franklin Bailey of Sheridan, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Harold Lorenson Spokane

Memorial service for Harold R. Lorenson, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Foothills Community Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lorenson, who died Monday, was born in Filmore, N.D.

He was a stationary engineer for Kaiser Aluminum and had lived in Spokane for more than 54 years.

He was a member of Foothills Community Church, the Central Grange, the Friendly Sams Club and the Spokampers Grange RV Club and was a charter member of the Orchard Prairie Volunteer Fire Department.

He had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and had been one of the top amateur baseball players in North Dakota and Eastern Washington.

He is survived by his wife, Orma Lorenson; a daughter, Faye Richardson of Old Lyme, Conn.; two sons, James and Gene Lorenson, both of Spokane; a brother, Grant Lorenson of Vancouver, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Vivian Cash Ellensburg

Graveside service for Vivian (Brown) Cash, 71, a former Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at West Bonner Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River, Idaho. Memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at Steward and Williams Chapel In Ellensburg.

Mrs. Cash, who died Saturday, was born in Vancouver, Wash.

She graduated from Priest River High School and Kinman Business University in Spokane.

After graduation, she worked for Inland Empire Storm as a bookkeeper.

She was a singer and entertained at Fairchild Air Force Base. She sang with a number of well-known people, including Red Foley, Cliff Carl, The Ink Spots and The Don Eagle Trio. While managing nightclubs, she met Bing Crosby and Harry James.

In 1967, she moved to Libby, Mont., where she worked for a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership.

In 1972, she moved to Ellensburg and was the lounge manager of the Thunderbird Lounge and the Elks Lodge.

She married Roy Cash in Reno, Nev., in 1977.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Kathleen “Kitty” Jones of Wenatchee and Colleen Smith of Chewelah, Wash.; a son, Dan Putnam of Spokane; a stepson, Brett Cash of Puyallup, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Carmen Ensminger of Loon Lake, Wash.; a sister, Vida Ackerman of Rathdrum, Idaho; a brother, Less Erdman of Newport, Wash.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

David Abrams Cusick, Wash.

Service for David R. Abrams, 41, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will follow at Newport Cemetery.

Mr. Abrams died Saturday at home.

He was born in Spokane and attended Rogers High School.

He moved to the Cusick area 10 years ago and worked as an industrial painter for several years until he retired due to an injury.

Survivors include his parents, Julius and Joyce Abrams of Cusick; and a son, Eddie Abrams of Spokane.
