Shirley Helps Vikings Retain Volleyball Lead

Angie Shirley’s five kills and five blocks Thursday helped Coeur d’Alene (17-1, 6-0) retain first place in Inland Empire League volleyball with a 15-9, 15-6 win over visiting Lewiston (8-5, 2-4).

Jennica Janke of the Vikings added four kills and two aces.

Bridgett O’Dwyer’s match-high 18 kills and four blocks guided first-place St. Maries (14-4, 8-0) to a 15-2, 15-6 Intermountain League win over visiting Bonners Ferry (3-14, 3-6).

Kari Burg added 10 digs and four kills for the Lumberjacks. BF’s Rachel Downing has six kills.

Sophomore Amber Goodson came off the bench to record a kill and two digs and rally second-place Kellogg (13-4, 5-2) to a 15-11, 16-14 win over visiting Moscow (6-10, 3-5).

Kellogg trailed the second game 9-2 before scoring 10 straight. Moscow took a 14-13 lead and served twice for the game point. Casidy Beamis had 12 aces and Marcy Switft six kills for Kellogg.

Jamie Harwood had six digs and served points 11-15 in the first game as Lakeland (8-10) beat visiting Wallace 15-13, 15-12, 15-9 in a non-league match at Rathdrum.

Amber Jamison added 10 kills and five blocks, and Cassie Beyers served eight consecutive second-game points for the Hawks. The Miners fell to 13-9.

Michelle Kelly served six consecutive points in the first game, and Mary Kolar did the same in the second game as Lakeside (6-13) beat visiting North Idaho Christian 15-4, 15-6 in a non-leaguer at Plummer.

Angela Flint had 13 assists, Clarity Wolfe eight digs and Alecia Hoffman four kills for the winning Knights.

Girls soccer

Teah Beckman scored on a 30-yard shot and set up an insurance goal by Cathy Gatten as first-place Coeur d’Alene (13-4-1, 11-1-1) beat visiting Moscow 3-0 in the North Idaho League.

The Vikings’ Nicole Richards scored the first goal at 25 minutes on a direct kick. Mariah Talbutt of the fourth-place Bears (7-4-3, 6-4-3) had 13 saves.

Also in the league, and also in CdA, two goals and one assist apiece by Ali Chisholm and Katie Brunn helped Lake City (7-6-2, 6-5-2) to an 8-0 win over visiting Bonners Ferry (0-12-0).

Elli Landwehr added one goal and one assist for the Timberwolves.
